Non-Abelian gauge field theory in scale relativity

چکیده
Gauge field theory is developed in the framework of scale relativity. In this theory, space-time is described as a nondifferentiable continuum, which implies it is fractal, i.e., explicitly dependent on internal scale variables. Owing to the principle of relativity that has been extended to scales, these scale variables can themselves become functions of the space-time coordinates. Therefore, a coupling is expected between displacements in the fractal space-time and the transformations of these scale variables. In previous works, an Abelian gauge theory (electromagnetism) has been derived as a consequence of this coupling for global dilations and/or contractions. We consider here more general transformations of the scale variables by taking into account separate dilations for each of them, which yield non-Abelian gauge theories. We identify these transformations with the usual gauge transformations. The gauge fields naturally appear as a new geometric contribution to the total variation of the action involving these scale variables, while the gauge charges emerge as the generators of the scale transformation group. A generalized action is identified with the scale-relativistic invariant. The gauge charges are the conservative quantities, conjugates of the scale variables through the action, which find their origin in the symmetries of the “scale-space”. We thus found in a geometric way and recover the expression for the covariant derivative of gauge theory. Adding the requirement that under the scale transformations the fermion multiplets and the boson fields transform such that the derived Lagrangian remains invariant, we obtain gauge theories as a consequence of scale symmetries issued from a geometric space-time description.

Gauge field theory in scale relativity
The aim of the present article is to give physical meaning to the ingredients of standard gauge field theory in the framework of the scale relativity theory. Owing to the principle of the relativity of scales, the scale-space is not absolute. Therefore, the scale variables are functions of the space-time coordinates, so that we expect a coupling between the displacement in space-time and the di...

We have suggested to extend the principle of relativity to scale transformations of the reference systems, then to apply this “principle of scale relativity” to a description of the space-time geometry generalized in terms of a nondifferentiable (therefore fractal) continuum. In such a framework, one can derive from first principles the main postulates of quantum mechanics. The basic tools of q...
متن کاملProjective Relativity: Present Status and Outlook
We give a critical analysis of projective relativity theory. Examining Kaluza’s own intention and the following development by Klein, Jordan, Pauli, Thiry, Ludwig and others, we conclude that projective relativity was abused in its own terms. Much more in the case of newer higher dimensional Kaluza–Klein theories with non-Abelian gauge groups. Reviewing the projective formulation of the Jordan ...
متن کاملGeometric interpretation of gauge fields in the theory of scale relativity∗
The question of the physical nature of gauge fields is revisited in the framework of the theory of scale relativity, first in the Abelian case (quantum electrodynamics), then in the non-Abelian case (SU(2) and more general fields). Space-time is described as a non-differentiable and fractal continuous manifold (i.e., it is explicitly dependent on the scale of resolution). The gauge fields can t...
متن کاملScale Relativity: A Fractal Matrix for Organization in Nature
In this review paper, we recall the successive steps that we have followed in the construction of the theory of scale relativity. The aim of this theory is to derive the physical behavior of a nondifferentiable and fractal space-time and of its geodesics (to which waveparticles are identified), under the constraint of the principle of relativity of all scales in nature. The first step of this c...
